Malaysia Airlines has expanded its China network to nine gateways after launching daily services from Kuala Lumpur to Shenzhen and Changsha using Boeing 737-8 aircraft.
The Malaysia Airlines China network has expanded to nine gateways following the launch of direct services from Kuala Lumpur to Shenzhen and Changsha. The two routes strengthen air links between Malaysia and the airline’s second-largest international market by number of destinations.
According to Malaysia Airlines, the expansion responds to rising demand for business and leisure travel between Malaysia and China. It also supports wider economic, tourism and people-to-people links between the two countries.
Shenzhen service launched on 1 July
The expansion began with the inaugural flight to Shenzhen on 1 July 2026. Flight MH522 departed from Terminal 1 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 21:05 local time.
Meanwhile, the return service began on 2 July. Flight MH523 departed Shenzhen for Kuala Lumpur at 02:45 local time.
Changsha flights started on 8 July
Malaysia Airlines launched its Changsha service on 8 July 2026. The inaugural MH520 flight departed Kuala Lumpur at 20:00 local time.
The return flight, MH521, left Changsha at 02:05 local time on 9 July. Therefore, the two launches were completed within the first nine days of July.
Both routes operate up to seven times per week. Malaysia Airlines uses Boeing 737-8 aircraft on the services, providing direct connections between Kuala Lumpur and the two Chinese cities.
China network reaches nine gateways
With the addition of Shenzhen and Changsha, Malaysia Airlines now serves nine gateways across Greater China. Its network also includes Beijing Daxing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Taipei and Chengdu.
As a result, the carrier has widened its access to major economic and tourism centres in different parts of the Chinese market. The new routes also provide passengers with further connections through Kuala Lumpur.
Bryan Foong, Chief Executive Officer of Airline Business at Malaysia Aviation Group, said the services form part of the group’s wider China expansion plans.
“The launch of our services to Shenzhen and Changsha marks a proud milestone in our continuous efforts to expand our network across China. By connecting Kuala Lumpur to these high-growth regional hubs, we are offering travellers greater convenience and flexibility while supporting stronger business, tourism and people-to-people ties between our two countries. As we welcome more visitors under the Visit Malaysia 2026 banner, this expansion also brings us closer to our vision of positioning Kuala Lumpur as a premier gateway to Asia and beyond.”
Support for Malaysia’s tourism targets
The new services support Malaysia’s tourism plans ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026. In addition, they make use of the mutual visa-free arrangements between Malaysia and China.
The expansion also reinforces Kuala Lumpur’s role as a regional aviation hub. Through Malaysia Airlines’ extensive network, passengers from Shenzhen and Changsha can connect to destinations across Asia and beyond.
To mark the launch, Malaysia Airlines is offering introductory all-inclusive return fares from MYR1,088. The promotional fares are available for purchase until 8 August 2026.
The offer applies to travellers planning business or leisure journeys on the new services, subject to the airline’s fare conditions and availability.
