Myanmar Unveils New Tourism Training Programs in Yangon, Aiming to Attract More Chinese Travelers through Elevated Service Standards

Myanmar’s Ministry of Hotels and Tourism is intensifying efforts to attract more Chinese travelers by elevating its tourism standards. The ministry, in collaboration with tourism-related associations and businesses, held a seminar in Yangon on Monday to outline strategies for expanding Myanmar’s appeal within the Chinese tourism market.

The seminar, led by Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Thet Thet Khine, introduced training programs for the tourism and hospitality sectors to improve services for Chinese visitors. The event, supported by the Myanmar Tourism Federation and the Chinese Embassy, highlighted the importance of catering to Chinese travelers’ unique preferences.

Aung Aye Han, deputy director-general of the ministry, presented an in-depth analysis of Chinese tourist preferences, including a focus on digital marketing, collaboration with Chinese travel influencers, and the need for Mandarin-speaking staff. He also emphasized the value of enhancing visitor experiences with Chinese-language content, streamlined visa processes, and payment platforms like Alipay and WeChat Pay.

Key initiatives to improve service include developing food-centered packages, ensuring food safety, and offering popular local experiences that resonate with Chinese tastes. Additionally, Aung Aye Han noted the importance of showcasing local products, including high-value items like gems and jewelry, which align with Chinese shopping habits.

“China is a crucial market for Myanmar’s tourism sector, with growing demand for cultural and experiential travel,” Aung Aye Han stated. “By focusing on digital outreach and cultural engagement, Myanmar can further enhance its appeal to Chinese visitors.”

The seminar also featured a panel discussion with tourism officials and industry professionals, emphasizing the potential of Myanmar’s tourism market beyond COVID-19.
