Bangladesh’s Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and Ministry of Culture have signed an MoU to promote cultural tourism, develop new procedures and establish a joint taskforce.
Bangladesh’s Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and the Ministry of Culture have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in tourism development, focusing on cultural tourism.
The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Culture’s conference hall during a meeting focused on heritage preservation, archaeological sites and tourism development initiatives.
The Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, MP, attended the meeting as the chief guest. Culture Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury chaired the event.
Also present were Culture Minister Ali Nawaz Mahmud Khaiyam and cultural adviser Dr Jahedur Rahman, along with senior officials from both ministries.
Joint task force to support cultural tourism
Speaking at the meeting, the Tourism Minister said tourism is closely linked to the Ministry of Culture’s work. Therefore, the two ministries will work together to develop the country’s tourism sector.
After signing the MoU, both sides will begin preparing a new standard operating procedure (SOP). The ministries will also establish a Joint Taskforce for Cultural Tourism to promote Bangladesh’s cultural heritage.
The Tourism Minister also proposed launching the “Nazrul Borsa” campaign for international visitors arriving at the country’s airports. The initiative will highlight the occasion of “Nazrul Borsa” and promote Bangladesh’s cultural identity.

Heritage sites to support tourism growth
Culture Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury said Bangladesh has thousands of years of heritage. He added that the government aims to present this heritage internationally through tourism development.
“Our country’s heritage is thousands of years old. The current government wants to spread this heritage around the world by developing it with the tourism theme. We have 554 archaeological sites where the Ministry’s Taskforce will visit in order. After that, a developmental decision will be taken.”
The meeting also highlighted the importance of archaeological sites in future tourism planning. The Ministry of Culture’s taskforce will review the country’s 554 archaeological sites before making development decisions.
Officials from both ministries attend meeting
Senior officials attended the meeting, including Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Kaniz Mawla and Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Fahmida Akhtar.
Representatives from both ministries, including senior officials from the National Defence College (NDC), also participated in the discussion.
