ASEAN markets continue to drive visitor growth
ASEAN remained the main source region for Malaysia’s inbound tourism performance, contributing 72.8% of total international arrivals in the first half of 2026. Singapore continued to represent the largest market, recording growth of 4.4% compared with the previous year.
At the same time, several emerging Southeast Asian markets recorded significant increases. Visitor arrivals from Cambodia rose by 52.3%, while those from Laos increased by 25.4% and from Myanmar by 45.9%.
Beyond ASEAN, Malaysia also recorded positive growth across several international regions. East Asia increased by 12.7%, supported by continued demand from China. The Chinese market maintained strong performance following the continuation of visa-free travel arrangements and targeted promotional campaigns.
Meanwhile, Central Asia recorded growth of 23.3%, followed by Oceania with a 7.4% increase and the Americas with 4.9% growth.
Visit Malaysia 2026 supports tourism momentum
MOTAC attributed the positive results to several factors, including the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign, which promotes Malaysia’s tourism products and experiences in international markets.
In addition, improved regional air connectivity has supported easier access to the destination through new and expanded flight routes. The ministry also highlighted the role of domestic tourism initiatives, including the Cuti-Cuti Malaysia campaign, in strengthening domestic travel demand.

Malaysia prepares for second-half tourism events
To maintain tourism growth during the second half of 2026, Malaysia will continue promoting major events and experiences aimed at attracting international visitors.
The country’s cultural calendar will include the Kuala Lumpur International Arts Festival, the Malaysia Year-End Sale, and performances such as Revolution Istana Budaya and The Grand Reawakening Legacy Evolution.
Furthermore, Malaysia will strengthen its position in sports and event tourism by hosting the final round of the 2026 China GT Championship at the Sepang International Circuit from 6 to 8 November 2026.
With continued international promotion, stronger regional links and a broad programme of events, Malaysia tourism arrivals in 2026 are expected to maintain positive momentum throughout the year as the country advances its Visit Malaysia 2026 objectives.
