Phu Quoc, voted Asia’s most beautiful island by readers of Condé Nast Traveler, received 2.97 million tourists in the first quarter of this year, up 43% year-on-year as it seeks to compete with regional destinations.
The number of foreign visitors reached over 800,000, meeting 40% of this year’s target, according to a report from An Giang Province’s Department of Tourism.
Phu Quoc is now able to compete with top regional destinations, Bui Quoc Thai, the provincial tourism director, said, as cited by the Vietnam News Agency.
Vietnam’s largest island has recently outperformed many regional rivals to be voted as Asia’s second-best island after Bali in the DestinAsian Readers’ Choice Awards 2026.
To enhance the visitor experience, local authorities recently launched a rapid-response tourism team along with a code of conduct aimed at safeguarding tourists’ rights, swiftly addressing incidents, and maintaining a safe, transparent and well-regulated environment.
The measures are expected to reinforce Phu Quoc’s reputation as a secure and professional destination, while supporting preparations for major international events, particularly APEC 2027, and boosting traveler confidence.
Phu Quoc aims to welcome 8.5 million visitors this year, a 5% increase from last year, including two million international arrivals, up 11%.
