London City Airport will introduce an £8 drop-off charge from 6 January 2026, with exemptions for Blue Badge holders and proposed meter integration for licensed black taxis.
London City Airport will introduce a new drop-off charge from 6 January 2026, applying to vehicles using the airport’s designated drop-off area.
Under the new policy, drivers will be charged £8.00 for a stay of 0–5 minutes. An additional £1 per minute will apply beyond five minutes, with a maximum permitted stay of 10 minutes. Blue Badge holders will be exempt from the charge.
The airport said the measure forms part of its wider approach to encouraging greater use of public and more sustainable transport options for journeys to and from the airport. According to the airport, around two-thirds of passengers already travel using public transport.
London City Airport also confirmed that licensed black taxis will be subject to a specific arrangement. Before the charge is applied to black cabs, Transport for London (TfL) will carry out its annual public consultation on taxi fares. As part of this process, a proposal from the Airport will be considered to formally include the drop-off charge within the taxi meter.
If approved, this would align the Airport with existing agreements between TfL and other major London airports, ensuring that black cab drivers do not personally absorb the cost of the drop-off charge.
