India’s Ministry of Tourism has added a Netflix-inspired section to the Incredible India portal, highlighting filming locations and supporting new film tourism experiences.
India film tourism is gaining momentum as the Ministry of Tourism adds a dedicated “As Seen on Netflix” section to the national tourism portal Incredible India.
The new initiative connects popular films and series with real destinations across India. It allows travellers to discover locations, monuments and landscapes featured in Netflix productions.
Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat announced the initiative as part of India’s efforts to develop new tourism experiences. The programme combines digital entertainment with destination promotion.
Creating new travel routes through screen locations
The new Incredible India section includes interactive maps and themed routes linked to filming locations. Visitors can explore places that appeared in Indian and international productions.
For example, travellers can discover historic palaces, traditional markets and natural landscapes featured on screen. The platform also highlights cultural stories connected with each destination. In addition, the initiative creates opportunities for travel companies. Tour operators can develop “set jetting” packages based on famous films and television locations.
Moreover, the programme promotes lesser-known destinations. Rural areas and regional states that gained visibility through Netflix productions can now reach wider audiences.
Combining heritage and cultural experiences
The film tourism initiative supports India’s broader strategy to promote cultural travel. It encourages visitors to experience local traditions rather than only visit major attractions.
At the same time, the programme connects with the national “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign. The campaign combines cultural activities, heritage promotion and tourism engagement. As part of the celebrations, the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture support festivals, traditional events and cultural programmes across the country.
These activities aim to encourage visitor participation in local communities. They also support tourism development in destinations beyond India’s main visitor centres.
Film tourism becomes a global destination strategy
Across the world, films and streaming platforms increasingly influence travel choices. Many destinations now use screen productions to showcase their landscapes, culture and visitor experiences. Therefore, India’s collaboration with Netflix reflects the growing importance of entertainment-led travel. The initiative combines heritage, technology and popular culture to attract new visitor segments.
