China hosts 37,000 cultural events to boost tourism nationwide

China held 37,000 cultural and tourism events this summer, enhancing public engagement and promoting high-quality sector development.

China has successfully hosted approximately 37,000 cultural and tourism events across more than 4,000 categories nationwide this summer, catering to popular interests such as night tours, summer getaways, and family-friendly excursions, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

At a press conference held on Friday, Ma Li, an official with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, highlighted that these activities are part of China’s broader efforts to promote the high-quality development of the cultural and tourism sectors. These initiatives aim to meet the growing expectations of the public for a better quality of life.

To support the nighttime economy, museums and tourist attractions were encouraged to extend their operating hours. Additionally, the ministry partnered with banks and enterprises to introduce initiatives designed to make cultural and tourism experiences more accessible and convenient for the public.

Ma Li also noted that local governments were encouraged to implement various measures to boost cultural and tourism consumption. These measures included ticket discounts for scenic spots, the distribution of consumption vouchers, and other incentives aimed at enhancing consumer engagement.

Efforts are also underway to boost the performance market and develop cultural projects that highlight regional and ethnic characteristics. The ministry is focused on pushing for equipment upgrades within the cultural and tourism sectors to enhance the overall consumer experience.

In line with these initiatives, more convenient payment options and a broader range of high-quality tourism products are being made available for inbound travelers, further bolstering China’s appeal as a global travel destination.

These efforts align with a recently issued guideline by China’s State Council, which emphasizes the advancement of high-quality development in service consumption, particularly in areas such as cultural entertainment, tourism, sports, and education.
