Malaysia reports 1.18 million Chinese visitors from January to May, a 194% increase, thanks to visa-free travel policies.
KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – Malaysia has experienced a remarkable influx of visitors from China, recording 1,185,050 arrivals from January to May. This represents a 194% increase compared to the same period last year, according to Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing.
Minister Tiong attributed this significant rise to the implementation of visa-free travel arrangements between Malaysia and China.
In a strategic move to further enhance connectivity and convenience for international travelers, Minister Tiong has called on airlines to expand their routes between Malaysia and various global destinations.
Malaysia first introduced the 30-day visa-free entry for Chinese citizens on December 1 last year. This initiative, which has proven to be successful, has now been extended until the end of 2026. The extension aims to sustain and build upon the momentum of increased tourist arrivals, bolstering the country’s tourism industry.
The visa-free arrangement and enhanced airline connectivity are part of Malaysia’s broader strategy to position itself as a premier tourist destination. By facilitating easier access and travel for international visitors, Malaysia hopes to achieve sustained growth in its tourism sector, which is a vital component of the country’s economy.
The positive trend in Chinese tourist arrivals not only underscores the effectiveness of the visa-free policy but also highlights the potential for similar arrangements with other countries. As Malaysia continues to enhance its tourism infrastructure and services, it remains committed to providing an exceptional travel experience for visitors from around the world.
