Hong Kong welcomed around 17,000 delegates for the 108th Lions International Convention, reinforcing the city’s position as a leading global MICE destination and one of the few hosts to stage the event three times.
Hong Kong Lions Convention brought approximately 17,000 delegates from around the world to Hong Kong for the 108th Lions International Convention 2026, held from 3 to 7 July at AsiaWorld-Expo. Supported by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), the event marks the third time Hong Kong has hosted the organisation’s flagship convention, following previous editions in 1992 and 2005.
With delegates representing Lions Clubs from more than 200 countries and regions, Hong Kong has become one of the few destinations worldwide to secure hosting rights for the convention on three occasions, reinforcing its position as a leading international meetings and events destination.
The opening ceremony welcomed more than 10,000 representatives from Lions Clubs worldwide. Dr Peter Lam, Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, said the convention’s return demonstrates Hong Kong’s strengths as a global MICE destination, supported by its aviation connectivity, convention infrastructure, hospitality sector and tourism experiences. He added that HKTB worked with industry partners to develop exclusive itineraries and experiences designed to encourage delegates to extend their stay and explore the destination.
Lions Clubs International, founded in 1917, is one of the world’s largest service organisations, with more than 1.4 million members across approximately 50,000 clubs in over 200 countries and regions.
Dr Tam Wing-kun, Honorary Chairman of the 108th Lions International Convention 2026 and Past International President of Lions Clubs International, said Hong Kong’s combination of East-West cultural heritage, professional services and established MICE infrastructure made it an ideal host city. He noted that the convention provides an international platform for discussing the future of community service while allowing delegates to experience Hong Kong’s culinary and cultural offerings.
The convention programme includes a Tai Chi world record attempt
As part of the five-day programme, organisers plan to attempt a world record by bringing together thousands of international delegates to practise Tai Chi simultaneously. The initiative aims to promote healthy lifestyles, celebrate traditional Chinese culture and raise awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
To complement the convention, HKTB partnered with local tourism businesses and major attractions to offer delegates a range of exclusive travel benefits, including transport offers, attraction tickets, shopping promotions, gift redemptions and theme park packages. The initiative is designed to encourage participants to remain in Hong Kong after the convention and further explore the destination.
HKTB said it will continue pursuing major international MICE events to strengthen Hong Kong’s competitiveness as a global destination for business events while supporting broader leisure tourism growth.
