Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s largest economy, welcomed 12.66 million foreign tourists in the first 11 months of 2024, marking a 21% year-on-year increase and the highest figure in the past five years.
This growth highlights the ongoing recovery of Indonesia’s tourism sector from the slowdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, The Bali Sun reported citing a source from Statistics Indonesia.
For 2024, the country had set a target of 14.3 million foreign arrivals.
This year, the Indonesian government anticipates attracting between 14.6 and 16 million international visitors.
Other Southeast Asian nations have also begun reporting their annual tourist arrival figures.
Thailand, which heavily depends on tourism, welcomed over 35 million foreign visitors in 2024.
Vietnam recorded nearly 16 million arrivals as of November, while Singapore surpassed 15 million during the same period.
