India introduces a mandatory digital e-Arrival Card for all foreign visitors, replacing paper disembarkation cards to simplify immigration procedures.
The Government of India has announced a significant update to its immigration procedures, introducing a fully digital Electronic Arrival Card (e-Arrival Card) for all foreign nationals entering the country. The new system, which came into effect on October 1, 2025, replaces the traditional paper-based disembarkation card and aims to simplify entry formalities while enhancing the overall travel experience.
The e-Arrival Card is part of India’s broader digitization initiative designed to streamline immigration processes for travelers visiting the country for tourism, business, medical treatment, conferences, studies, or other purposes.
Key highlights of the new e-Arrival Card system include:
- Mandatory Online Submission: All foreign nationals must complete the e-Arrival Card online prior to their arrival in India. Paper disembarkation cards will no longer be accepted.
- Submission Timeline: The form must be submitted within 72 hours (3 days) before arrival.
- Submission Platforms: Travelers can complete the e-Arrival Card through the Bureau of Immigration website, the Indian Visa Online portal, or the Indian Visa Su-Swagatam mobile app, available for iOS and Android devices.
- Required Information: Applicants must provide their passport details, nationality, purpose of visit, address in India, and contact information.
- Exemptions: Indian citizens and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders are exempt from this requirement.
This digital transition reflects India’s commitment to modernizing travel procedures, reducing paperwork, and ensuring a smoother entry process for international visitors.
Foreign nationals are encouraged to complete the e-Arrival Card in advance to ensure a seamless and efficient immigration experience upon arrival in India.
