Goa tourism authorities strengthen enforcement on beaches over visitor misconduct

Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte

Goa’s Department of Tourism announced stronger enforcement on beaches following incidents of visitor misconduct, including approaching foreign tourists for selfies, with additional Tourism Police personnel deployed across key coastal areas.

The Department of Tourism in Goa has announced stricter enforcement measures on beaches following reports of indiscipline by visitors that have caused inconvenience to other tourists.

Authorities stated that they have taken serious note of several recent incidents involving unruly behaviour by some visitors, particularly instances where young tourists approach foreign travellers for selfies or engage in actions that disrupt the peaceful beach environment.

Hon’ble Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte said that while Goa continues to welcome visitors from across India and internationally, behaviour that violates public decorum will not be tolerated.

“I have discussed this matter with Hon’ble Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, and steps are being taken to strengthen enforcement, including deploying additional police personnel on beaches through the Tourism Police Unit (TPU) in coordination with the respective police stations. Continuous action is being taken, and arrests are being made wherever necessary,” said Hon’ble Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte.

The minister emphasised that protecting the destination’s reputation as a responsible tourism destination remains a priority for the state government.

“Goa welcomes every visitor with warmth and hospitality, but this cannot be mistaken for a lack of discipline. Any behaviour that disrespects fellow tourists, inconveniences visitors, or disrupts public order will invite strict action. We are committed to ensuring that our beaches remain safe, respectful, and enjoyable spaces for everyone.”

The government has also directed authorities to increase the presence of women constables within the Tourism Police Unit (TPU) as part of wider measures to strengthen safety and security monitoring across major tourist areas.

The Department of Tourism reiterated that Goa remains committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for visitors while protecting the dignity of both local residents and international travellers.

Authorities also urged visitors to respect local laws, culture and fellow travellers while enjoying the destination.
