But there is a beach in Bangladesh that is off-limits to tourists. Yes, you heard it right. A new beach named “Bori Beach” has been declared inaccessible to tourists visiting Cox’s Bazar and local residents.
The authorities took the initiative on the backdrop of numerous instances of tourists littering the beach, causing major harm to the longest sea beach in the world.
The “Bori Beach” will remain 100% clean and plastic-free and will serve solely as a safe habitat for biodiversity.
Mohammad Ali Hossain, secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, inaugurated the beach near Reju Khal, adjacent to Sonarpara in Ukhiya on the Marine Drive on Saturday afternoon.
The Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute (Bori) will primarily use this beach for research. For this purpose, the administration has allocated 2.91km of the beach at Sonarpara on Marine Drive to Bori. From now on, he Bori authorities will manage this beach and conduct research there.
Bori Director-General Prof Towhida Rashid said that this beach will be used only for research purposes and will not conflict with tourism. It will serve as a safe haven for biodiversity and will remain completely clean and plastic-free. BORI will maintain the beach.
He also said that the local community living near the beach will benefit from this initiative, and local communities will also be involved.
During this time, Mohammad Ali Hossain, secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, said that Bori Beach would serve as a model for oceanographic research. It is necessary to demonstrate and explain to the local community how research will be conducted on this beach.
