Dhaka, April 29 – A dinner reception was hosted in honor of Her Excellency Stella Nkomo, Ambassador of the Republic of Zimbabwe to the Republic of India, on Monday evening at Dyas Hotel, Dhaka. The event was organized by H.M. Hakim Ali, Honorary Consul-General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Chattogram, and attended by distinguished guests from the diplomatic corps, business community, and government circles.

Ambassador Nkomo, who arrived in Dhaka on April 25 with a high-level delegation, formally presented her credentials to the Hon’ble President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, His Excellency Mohammed Shahabuddin, earlier that day.

In her address, the Ambassador expressed appreciation for the warm welcome extended to her delegation. She introduced her spouse, Captain Brian Chawasarira, and Deputy Head of Mission Mr. Peter Hovwane, acknowledging the warm hospitality and friendliness synonymous with Bangladesh.

“This is certainly not my last visit,” said Ambassador Nkomo. “If you host a visitor well, they will always return. I have enjoyed every moment here.”

Strengthening Ties Between Two Friendly Nations

Ambassador Nkomo emphasized the potential for expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, cotton and textiles, mining, ICT, pharmaceuticals, energy, and tourism.

“We are strategically located in Southern Africa with access to over 1.3 billion consumers through SADC, COMESA, and AfCFTA,” she stated. “Zimbabwe welcomes Bangladeshi investors and offers a safe, investor-friendly environment supported by the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA).”

She encouraged Bangladeshi business leaders to explore opportunities in Zimbabwe’s agro-processing, mineral value chains, and textile industries, stressing that Zimbabwe’s cotton sector can greatly benefit from Bangladesh’s global expertise in garments manufacturing.

Closing Remarks and Gratitude

In closing, the Ambassador expressed her sincere thanks to H.M. Hakim Ali for hosting the evening and extending such a warm welcome to her and her team.

“It is truly an honor to be here. I thank Mr. Hakim Ali for this wonderful dinner and for gathering such a distinguished group of guests in the spirit of friendship and cooperation,” she said. “This marks the beginning of stronger diplomatic and economic ties between our two nations.”

The reception concluded with informal networking, cultural exchange, and discussions on potential collaboration between Zimbabwean and Bangladeshi stakeholders.
