Tourism from the United States and Canada to Bhutan recorded double-digit growth in 2025, with arrivals surpassing pre-pandemic levels and further expansion expected in 2026.
Bhutan recorded strong growth in arrivals from North America in 2025, with tourism from the United States increasing by 20% compared to 2024, according to the country’s Department of Tourism. Arrivals from Canada also rose by 22% year-on-year.
The figures were announced by Damcho Rinzin, Director of Bhutan’s Department of Tourism, who noted that the results highlight the Kingdom’s growing appeal among North American travellers.
These results underscore Bhutan’s attractiveness for the North American traveler,” Rinzin said, adding that tourism to the Kingdom has fully recovered from the pandemic-related decline and has now surpassed pre-Covid levels.
The recovery reflects renewed long-haul travel confidence and Bhutan’s positioning as a high-value, low-volume destination focused on cultural depth, nature-based experiences and mindful travel. North America has emerged as a key long-haul source market, contributing to diversification beyond traditional regional arrivals.
Air connectivity has played a central role in supporting this rebound. Bhutan has seen increased flight services to Paro Airport from Dubai, Bangkok, Singapore, Delhi and Kathmandu, improving access from both regional and intercontinental gateways.
In addition, Bhutan’s second international airport at Gelephu Mindfulness City is now served by two weekly flights from Kolkata, further strengthening inbound connectivity from the Indian market and supporting multi-entry regional itineraries.
With expanded air services and sustained interest from long-haul markets, tourism authorities expect 2026 to exceed 2025 arrival levels. The outlook is supported by continued demand from North America and improved access across key feeder markets, positioning Bhutan for further growth while maintaining its destination management framework.
