AirAsia marked the departure of its first fixed-fare flight for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri period with full capacity, as flight AK5648 to Miri, Sarawak, departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA T2) carrying 180 passengers.

The flight was part of a broader initiative introduced by Malaysia’s Minister of Transport, YB Anthony Loke Siew Fook, aimed at offering more affordable travel options during the festive season. The fixed-fare scheme, announced on 26 February 2025, made 16,000 extra seats available from Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru to 10 destinations across East Malaysia.

The departure event was attended by Minister Loke and AirAsia Aviation Group’s Deputy CEO (Airline Operations), Datuk Captain Chester Voo, who greeted passengers prior to boarding. The event also featured a Hari Raya-themed activation at KLIA T2, including live entertainment by singer Mimifly, AirAsia’s Fun Team, and festive giveaways for travellers in the departure hall.

The initiative is part of the government’s continued efforts to ease the burden of festive travel costs, particularly for those returning to East Malaysia for the holidays.

AirAsia advised passengers to use the airline’s digital platforms to streamline their journey, including the AirAsia MOVE app for check-in and the e-Boarding Pass feature. Travellers are also encouraged to arrive at the airport well in advance—three hours before international departures and two hours for domestic flights.

Check-in counters at KLIA T2 close one hour before departure, and 45 minutes before take-off at other Malaysian airports for domestic services.

Passengers are reminded of carry-on baggage restrictions, which include one cabin bag and a small personal item, with a combined weight limit of 7kg.

This fixed-fare initiative is expected to support thousands of travellers over the Hari Raya travel period, reflecting ongoing collaboration between government and private carriers to improve domestic air travel accessibility.
