The Sheraton Kota Kinabalu opening introduces a 307-room hotel designed to strengthen connectivity, meetings and leisure travel in Sabah.
The Sheraton Kota Kinabalu opening marks a new phase for hospitality development in Sabah, as Sheraton Hotels & Resorts introduces a 307-room hotel in the heart of Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia’s coastal capital on the island of Borneo.
The newly opened hotel is part of Sheraton’s global brand transformation, which emphasises redesigned public spaces, functional guest experiences, and environments that encourage connection, collaboration, and productivity. Rising as one of the tallest buildings in Borneo, the property strengthens Kota Kinabalu’s position as both a business and leisure destination.
Located along Jalan Albert Kwok, the hotel is centrally located near the waterfront, retail districts, dining venues, and cultural attractions. Guests have views of the South China Sea and the Mount Kinabalu range, reinforcing the city’s appeal as a destination where urban life, nature and culture intersect.
“Kota Kinabalu is one of Malaysia’s most inspiring destinations, known for its rich heritage, diverse cultures, and extraordinary natural beauty,” said Ramesh Jackson, Regional Vice President, Indonesia & Malaysia, Marriott International. “The opening of Sheraton Kota Kinabalu marks an exciting milestone as we expand Sheraton’s community-focused design and signature experiences across key destinations in the region.”

At the core of the hotel’s layout is the Sheraton Communal Lobby concept, designed as a flexible, multifunctional space that supports work, meetings, and social interaction. The Community Table integrates power access and wireless charging, while additional soundproof booths and a dedicated Studio space provide quieter environments for focused work and private conversations.
The hotel features 307 guestrooms across a range of categories, including standard rooms, Executive Rooms, Executive Suites, a Deluxe Suite and a Presidential Suite. Rooms feature large windows, spacious bathrooms, and contemporary interiors inspired by Sabah’s coastal and mountainous landscapes, catering to both short- and extended-stay travellers.
Guests staying in premium accommodation categories, as well as eligible loyalty members, have access to the Sheraton Club Lounge. The lounge operates throughout the day as a space for dining, informal meetings and relaxation, offering panoramic city and sea views alongside curated food and beverage service.
Sheraton Kota Kinabalu offers several dining venues for both hotel guests and the local market. These include an all-day dining restaurant serving international and local dishes, a hybrid café and bar concept that transitions from morning coffee to evening cocktails, a casual gourmet burger outlet, and a rooftop bar located approximately 100 metres above sea level, with views of the coastline, islands, and city skyline.
For meetings and events, the hotel offers a 703-square-metre grand ballroom, four flexible meeting rooms, and additional event spaces, all supported by modern audiovisual technology. A dedicated Wedding Pavilion overlooking the sea and surrounding islands expands the hotel’s positioning in the weddings and social events segment.
Wellness facilities include a fully equipped fitness centre, a spa offering restorative treatments, and a rooftop infinity pool overlooking the South China Sea. These facilities support the hotel’s role as an urban retreat for both business and leisure travellers.
“We are delighted to welcome guests to Sheraton Kota Kinabalu, where the spirit of Sabah’s culture and the warmth of its people are reflected in every detail of the hotel,” said Nauman Hasan, General Manager, Sheraton Kota Kinabalu. “Whether visiting for business or leisure, our guests will discover a place where they can connect, relax, and create meaningful memories.”
The hotel participates in the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programme, allowing members to earn and redeem points and access personalised, contactless travel services during their stay.
