Nepal’s Koshi Province to push for development of tourism infrastructure

The provincial minister announced that infrastructure development efforts are now ongoing

Hikmat Kumar Karki, chief minister of Koshi Province in Nepal, announced that efforts are underway with regard to the development of tourism infrastructure within the area.

Karki made the announcement when he formally opened the three-day Eastern Travel Mart in Itahari on Sunday, 9th March.

He pointed out that tourism is one of the fundamental pillars of economic prosperity and that the provincial government is giving this ample attention.

Karki declared: “Economic prosperity and development are the utmost priority of the government and developmental initiatives were forwarded to relevant parties in a planned manner.”     

The minister likewise expressed readiness to work together with technical partners on the local level so that additional tourist destinations can be identified in order to boost arrivals into Koshi Province.

An event to promote the region

The Eastern Travel Mart in Itahari is an annual event that seeks to boost visibility of Koshi Province and surrounding areas to a wider travel and tourism community.

According to event organising secretary Basudev Baral, this year’s Mart welcomed foreign travellers from India, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, some of whom will be taken on a familiarisation tour of the province.

The event is organised by the Nepal Tourism Board in partnership with the government of Koshi Province and local government officials in Itahari.
