Vietnam’s tourism industry saw a 14.2% increase in visitors during the April 27-May 1 holiday, with significant gains in overnight stays.
In 5 days of the holiday from 27th April to 1st May 2024, the Vietnam tourism industry welcomed and served 8 million visitor arrivals, up 14.2% over the same period in 2023, including about 3.6 million overnight visitor arrivals.
A wave of tourists flock to many localities across the country
The average room capacity at tourist accommodation establishments nationwide was about 60%, during peak days it reached over 70%, some coastal destinations reached 95-100% occupancy during the holiday period.
Most key tourist areas across the country have recorded positive signs with a high increase in tourist numbers compared to the same period in 2023. Thanh Hoa served about 1,520,000 visitor arrivals, an increase of 27.2%; Total tourist receipts reached about VND 3,805 billion, an increase of 32.8%. Quang Ninh served about 1,017,800 visitor arrivals, an increase of 48.0%; Total tourist receipts reached VND 2,210 billion, an increase of 53%. Khanh Hoa served about 969,950 visitor arrivals, an increase of 21.5%; Total tourist receipts reached about VND 1,306.7 billion, an increase of 53%. Ho Chi Minh City served about 969,000 visitor arrivals, an increase of 2%; Total tourist receipts reached about VND 3,235 billion, an increase of 3.4%. Nghe An served about 950,000 visitor arrivals, an increase of 22%; Total tourist receipts reached more than VND 1,700 billion. Ha Noi served about 737,900 visitor arrivals, an increase of 4%; Total tourist receipts reached about VND 2,500 billion, an increase of nearly 10%. Ba Ria – Vung Tau served about 626,360 visitor arrivals, an increase of 25%; Total tourist receipts reached about VND 668.8 billion, an increase of 12.5%. Da Nang served about 336,000 visitor arrivals, an increase of 11.6%; Total tourist receipts reached about VND 1,336 billion, an increase of 12.7%.
Exciting events and tourist programmes
Tourism activities in localities have also been carefully prepared right before the holidays, with many activities to stimulate tourism demand, discounts, and product promotions were implemented. Typically, the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Festival, Vietnam International Travel Mart VITM Ha Noi, Tourism promotion programme “Quang Nam – Heritage Green Region”; Sun World Hon Thom applies the promotion of buying cable car tickets and getting free tickets to visit the Kiss Bridge, 15% discount on the ticket price of the Kiss of the Sea show and free marriage proposal tickets; Charm Resort Ho Tram (Ba Ria – Vung Tau) opens to welcome visitors free of charge.
Festivals and events to create highlights to attract tourists are also actively and vibrantly implemented by localities, organising a variety of cultural activities, events, festivals, and art programmes such as “Opening of Da Nang Beach Tourism Season 2024” with the theme “Summer Waves”; “Tourism Festival 2024 “Do Son – 4 season destination”; Opening ceremony of Ha Tinh beach tourism in 2024; Bac Kan Province Culture and Tourism Week 2024; Sam Son Beach Tourism Festival 2024; Fansipan Rose Festival.
Tourist products are also launched that are attractive and new in addition to renewing traditional products such as “Da Lat Night Journey” (Lam Dong); Hung Temple night tour (Phu Tho); “A journey – many experiences” of Ninh Binh – Thanh Hoa – Nghe An – Ha Tinh; Thuy Tinh Water Park, Light Park (Do Son, Hai Phong); Hue – Da Nang 5-star train product set with the theme “Heritage Connection Journey”; The “Red River experience tour”, Nam Thang Long Heritage Road (Ha Noi).
Tourist transport has also been changed to meet the great travel demand. Airlines such as Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet have increased night flights and introduced wide-body aircraft into domestic operations to contribute to supplementing/increasing supply capacity. The railway industry increased additional trains from Ha Noi to Dong Hoi, Vinh, Thanh Hoa, Lao Cai, Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa; from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Quy Nhon and discounted tickets for passengers. Inland waterway ports have increased ships to the islands of Cu Lao Cham, Ly Son, Con Dao, Phu Quy, Phu Quoc.
