
Mohammad Hanif has been elected President of the Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB), the country’s apex trade body representing the tourism industry, for the 2026–2028 term.
According to the election results announced, Mohammad Hanif secured 178 votes to defeat Md. Taslim Amin Shovon, who received 144 votes in the presidential race.
In the closely contested election for First Vice President, Syed Shafat Uddin Ahmed Tamal emerged victorious with 163 votes, narrowly defeating Salauddin Ahmed, who received 159 votes. Md. Moinul Islam was elected Vice President (1) with 240 votes, while Ziaur Rahman Zakir was elected Vice President (2) with 176 votes.
A total of 16 directors, including the President and other office bearers, were elected through direct voting by the general members. Meanwhile, Md. Zahir Uddin (Director of Accounts), Md. Mizanur Rahman (Director of Media and Public Relations), Mominul Islam Asif (Director of Information Technology), and Md. Nasir Uddin Badal (Director representing the Associate Members Group) were elected unopposed.
Other elected office bearers include Zahir Ahmed Helal as Director of Finance, Md. Firozul Islam as Director of International Affairs, Md. Abul Baset Babu as Director of Trade and Fairs, Md. Robiul Islam Robi as Director of Legal Affairs, Md. Abu Raihan Sarkar as Director of Printing and Publications, Naimul Hasan as Director of Training and Research, Syed Md. Imtiaz as Director of Culture and Sports, A.B.M. Zakaria (Rajib) as Director of Membership and Human Welfare, and Shakhawat Hossain as Director of Property and Assets.
Mohammad Mohiuddin, Md. Tamim Ahmed, and Md. Nurul Anwar were also elected as Directors. Among them, Mohammad Mohiuddin secured the highest number of votes in the election with 292 votes.
Voting was held on Tuesday (16 June) from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the auditorium of the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation in Agargaon, Dhaka. TOAB had a total of 424 voters, comprising 410 general members and 14 associate members. A total of 365 voters exercised their franchise in this election.
Md. Helal Uddin served as Chairman of the Election Board, while Aslam Khan and Khobir Uddin Ahmed served as members. Mokarram Hossain Khan chaired the Appeal Board, with Akkas Mahmood and Tanvir Ahmed Dipu serving as members. TOAB’s Company Secretary, Md. Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan, served as Secretary of the Election Board.
The newly elected TOAB Executive Committee, led by President Mohammad Hanif, will officially assume office and commence its activities on 27 June.
