Special trains will run from October 10 to October 13
In anticipation of heightened demand during the Durga Puja and the upcoming weekend, the Bangladesh Railway has announced the operation of seven additional special passenger trains on the Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar route.
These special trains will run from October 10 to October 13, supplementing the two regular services currently operating on the route. The proposal for the additional service was approved on October 3 by the Director General of Bangladesh Railway.
“Bangladesh Railway always takes into account passenger demand when planning operations. With the long holiday ahead, we anticipate significant demand for travel to Cox’s Bazar and will operate seven special trains to accommodate this,” said Md Mahbubur Rahman, the chief commercial officer of the Railway’s Eastern Zone.
Officials from Bangladesh Railway expect a surge in travel to the popular tourist destination due to the holidays associated with Durga Puja and the weekend. Numerous passengers have already booked tickets for the night train scheduled to depart on 10 October.
The night train will offer 518 seats, including seven AC berths, one first-class berth, four AC chair coaches, and various regular seating arrangements.
For daytime services, the seat capacity will increase to 634 as sleeper coaches will be converted into regular seating. The train will depart Dhaka at 11pm on October 10 and arrive in Cox’s Bazar by 7:30am the following morning.
The Cox’s Bazar Express, an intercity service, commenced operations on December 1, 2023, followed by the launch of the Tourist Express on January 1, 2024.
Both trains make stops in Chittagong, with designated coaches for Chittagong-bound passengers.
