Deadline for bids ended at midnight
Lufthansa has confirmed that it has made a joint bid for the Italian state-owned ITA Airways with shipping group MSC.
The government is seeking to privatize ITA, which replaced loss-making carrier Alitalia last year, via a direct sale and a deadline for binding offers ended at midnight.
The State is set to maintain a minority stake in ITA.
A consortium made up of America equity fund Certares, Air France-KLM and Delta Air Lines is also thought to have made a bid.
