The upazila administration has stopped the flow of tourists to Nafakum Jharna in Thanchir upazila of Bandarban.
The Thanchi Upazila administration issued the directive on October 3 after a 35-year-old tourist named Kazi Jakarul Islam Kanon, who had come from Dhaka to take a bath in the remote Nafakhum spring in Thanchi, died.
On the morning of October 3, Kanan, son of Zahirul Islam of Uttara in Dhaka, went for a walk in the Nafakhum spring of the remote Remakri union of Thanchi upazila and was swept away by the strong current. His body was found the next day. Earlier, some tourists died while taking a bath in the spring.
Thanchi Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) said. Ariful Islam Mridul told banglanews that mountain springs and access roads to the Sangu river basin in Bandarban have become dangerous due to rains. Traveling to these fountains is now quite risky for tourists. That is why we are currently discouraging tourists from visiting Nafakhum and other springs in Thanchi Upazila. However, if the situation is normal, I will allow Nafakhum to travel again.
