Due to the coronavirus pandemic, in April, Qatar’s operations were moved to Terminal 2 at Heathrow, as its former permanent home Terminal 4 was closed and will likely remain as such until 2021.

This means that Qatar Airways business-class passengers will experience a slight downgrade to the Qatar lounge that they might have used in T4, as they will now have access to BA’s Galleries South lounge in T5, as will Gold members of Qatar’s Privilege Club.
For those Platinum Privilege Club members, they will have access to BA’s First lounge as well as access to check-in through BA’s First Wing. However, Qatar’s A380s are no longer flying due to the pandemic and they are the only aircraft that are fitted with its first-class product — the airline is currently offering no first class at all.
Japan Airlines will also start operating from T5 as of 29 July.
A Heathrow spokesperson confirmed to TPG U.K. that other airlines would be moving terminals at Heathrow, but could not confirm exactly which airlines or when.
“There are further airline moves planned over the coming weeks”, a spokesperson for the airline said. “We’re looking to rebalance airlines across our available terminal capacity as the recovery starts to build and passenger numbers start to grow”.
It will be interesting to see in the coming weeks and months how Heathrow manages its airline and passenger capacities, as the airport is currently coming under scrutiny for an apparent lack of enforced social distancing and mask-wearing throughout the airport.
Earlier in July, American Airlines switched some of its flights to Heathrow from the Oneworld hub in Terminal 3, leaving behind its business and first-class lounges. Cathay Pacific and Qantas also have their own lounges in T3, meaning it’s likely they will remain separate from their Oneworld partners.
