Bangladesh has suspended all rail services, except freight trains, indefinitely amid the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The government has decided to put all public transport services under ‘lockdown’ from Mar 26 to Apr 4, Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader said in a video message on Tuesday.

Trucks, covered van, medicine, emergency services, fuel, perishable goods transportation will still run, but no passengers will be allowed on the goods-carrying transport.

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Shujon said, passenger train services will be closed indefinitely from Tuesday evening.

Earlier in the day, BIWTA declared the decision to shut down all passenger launch services from Tuesday.

Domestic flights too will be suspended from Wednesday.
