Kuala Lumpur : The Malaysian government started charging a departure levy on flights departing Malaysia, effective Septem-ber 1.

For destinations within ASEAN, the departure levy is RM8 for Economy Class and RM50 for Business Class and Business Suites.

For those travelling beyond ASEAN, the departure levy is RM20 for Economy Class and RM150 for Business Class and Business Suites.

The departure levy will be collected by all airlines on behalf of the government, and shall be itemised and reflected in the total airfare.

Passengers aged below 24 months, international transit passengers with a stopover time of less than 12 hours, crew on duty and travellers who book flights before the effective date are exempted from the departure levy.
